Announcing on Facebook

Rep. John Fritchey (11th District) took the novel approach of announcing his candidacy for the fifth congressional district on his Facebook page last Monday.

At 11:11 p.m., that state representative announced, "John Fritchey is humbled and honored to let his Facebook friends be among the first to know that he is a candidate for Illinois' 5th Congressional District!"

Law Would Crack Down on Puppy Mills

"The bill, sponsored by Fritchey and State Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-Mount Prospect) and backed by the Humane Society of the United States and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is called Chloe's Bill after a young female dog named Chloe who was rescued from a filthy, unlicensed puppy mill in downstate Macon County.

"This isn't something that should be considered radical," Fritchey said. "It's decent."
